In 2009 construction of the Bridge through Lena River will begin

In 2009 construction of the combined railway and automobile bridge through Lena River will begin. About it at a meeting with inhabitants of the Yakut village Zhatay which has taken place on March, 27, the deputy chairman of the Government of RS (Y) Arthur Alekseev has declared.
Length of the bridge will make more than 3 kilometers. As well as it was planned earlier, it will be erected in area of Tabaga cape. It is a bottleneck on Lena River near to Yakutsk. In others places flood of the river during water achieves up to 23 kilometers.

Now builders of railway Berkakit-Tommot-Yakutsk have crossed frontier of Aldan and Khangalas regions and are in 260 kilometers from Yakutsk.

According to the words of Arthur Nikolaevich, the enormous speed is taken by builders. It is annually planned to hand over on 150 kilometers of the top construct of a way. And in 2008 the railway should come on the right coast of the Lena River in the Kerdem village.

The decision on construction of the combined bridge is accepted in all corresponding federal authorities. The key parameters of the investment agreement are discussed. In particular, since this year designing of the bridge and design-exploration works will be financed. In 2009 actual construction of the object will begin. To 2013 it is planned to finish this construction. Having get over Lena River, the railway on the left coast of the river will leave in Tabaga area, therefrom one branch will go to Zhatay area, another - in the Yakut river port. In area of air terminal the railway station Yakutsk-passenger will be constructed.

Simultaneously with this order the President of Yakutia Vyacheslav Shtyrov and the governor of Magadan region Nikolay Dudov the joint working group on development of offers on continuation of construction of the railway from Yakutsk up to Magadan is created.

In 2010 excavations on construction of the railway up to capital of Yakutia will be completed. And for to not lose the huge forces, borrowed on erection of the “railway”, it is more than two thousand transport builders, more than six hundred units of technical equipments, it will be necessary to provide them with new work. The variant of continuation of construction of the railway up to Magadan region is comprehensible. Arthur Alekseev is confident that the management of Yakutia and Magadan region will manage to prove the necessity of realization of the given project. If it will take place, its realization will allow to improve a transport infrastructure of all Far East.

It's great news! I'd love to visit Yakutsk one day (mind you it's not going to happen anytime soon, I can't afford it now) and I hope to get there by railway. It's a long way from here (I live in Europe) but it would be a fascinating journey. I wish you all the best!

This is great news about the bridge!! It is also great news that the AYAM line has reached Kharbykan from Amga. (Kharbydon is only some 280km (175 miles) south of Yakutsk!) Work has is currently underway north of Kharbykan & heading toward Kyurbykan & Khaniyerdakh which will bring the rail line to with 200km/120 mikes of Yakutsk. It's (finally) getting closer!!! I am one of the few Americans that has travelled to Yakutsk and it is a beautiful first class Siberian city (& getting more beautiful all of the time as old Soviet concrete apartment blocks are demolished and replaced by aesthetic high-rises). So the rail line is badly needed as the only road from the south (Tynda/Neryungri) is a very poor sub-standard road! I'm anxiously awaiting 2013 so I can return to Yakutsk by train!!!

I am still anxiously awaiting further progress & the eventual completion of the final 150km of the northern AYAM line to Yakutsk. I guess they are debating either a bridge or a possible tunnel at the Lena River crossing some 65km south of Yakutsk.
Having traveled to Yakutsk in 2007, I still anxiously await taking another trip to Yakutsk by train (instead of by air). It's been a life time dream of mine! So I will eagerly await the decision of whether to build a bridge or tunnel near Tabaga. I hope they make the decision soon so they can begin work on this large project &/thus finally completing the rail!!
